Dumb by design:
On a Windows 2008 R2 server when one deletes (using Right Click Delete, File Delete, or Del key) folders under a share you are prompted with: "this folder is shared with other people".
This is okay for a couple of folders (i guess), but I need to delete a thousand folders/subfolders
Solution:
Drag the files to the recycle bin
